Cambridge's Thorman cracks list of most influential Canadians in baseball

Cambridge native Scott Thorman is the minor-league field coordinator for the Kansas City Royals.

A familiar face has once again found himself among the Top 100 most influential Canadians in baseball.

Cambridge's Scott Thorman, the minor league field coordinator for the Kansas City Royals, came in at No. 48 on the Canadian Baseball Network's 2024 list released earlier this week.

It's up 14 spots from where Thorman was in 2023, when he was ranked No. 62.

Before becoming the team's minor league field coordinator, he managed throughout Kansas City's system, making stops with the Single-A Lexington Legends, High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks, Double-A Arkansas Travellers and Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.

The former big leaguer, who spent parts of two seasons with the Atlanta Braves in 2006 and 2007, has been instrumental in building the Royals' minor league pipeline of talent.

A total of 54 players he's managed have gone on to play for the major league team.

He's been a part of the development of notable players like shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., right-handed pitcher Brady Singer, first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino and outfielder Kyle Isbel. Witt Jr. signed an 11-year, $288.7 million contract with he Royals prior to last season and went on to finish second in American League Most Valuable Player voting.

Thorman was a 2017 inductee into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame.
