Dec. 21 marks the beginning of winter.

It's officially the first day of winter and the city is ready to celebrate.

The City of Cambridge sign at 50 Dickson St will be illuminated the colour of the medicine wheel to recognize the winter solstice.

It's the shortest day and longest night of the year in Earth’s Northern Hemisphere. Following Dec. 21, the amount of daylight increases until the summer solstice on June 20.

The medicine wheel honours the significance of the solstice to Indigenous communities.
