All skill levels are welcome to come try ringette at Hespeler Arena on Sept. 17.

With summer winding down and the cold weather creeping in, the Cambridge Ringette Association is hoping to encourage more youth to get in the game.

On Sept. 17, the association will welcome members of the community to try the sport for free.

Ringette is a non-contact sport played on an ice rink using skates, straight sticks with drag-tips and a rubber ring. Similar to hockey, the objective of the game is to score goals by putting the ring into a hockey net.

The free trial will take place at Hespeler Arena from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with kids being accompanied by experienced coaches. Beginner skaters are encouraged to come.

Each player will have the opportunity to learn the skills of shooting, passing, receiving and skating.

Participant need to bring warm clothes including gloves, splash or snow pants, a jacket, skates and a helmet. Sticks will be provided and protective padding including elbow and knee pads are recommended.

Children must be three years of age or older to participate and registration is required.
