The Cambridge Memorial Hospital Trees of Caring campaign needs one final push to reach its goal.

The fundraiser has raised $301,593 of its $330,000 target, with donations being collected until Jan. 31.

For the past 36 years, the hospital has been collecting donations from the community around the holiday season in honour of loved ones who have died, recovered or are on the road to recovery.

Proceeds from the campaign go towards purchasing equipment needed for patient care.

Over the next three years, CMH will need $4 million to purchase new equipment. Topping the list are seven operating room tables at a cost of $100,000 each, eight anesthesia gas machines for surgery at $90,000 per unit and four ventilators for the intensive care unit pegged at $61,000 apiece.

"Every equipment that you see around, has been donated by the community members," Kavya Nair, communications and donor engagement officer with the CMH Foundation, told CambridgeToday last month.

"The community that supports us is the reason why we have this modern equipment around to keep the comfort and care close to home."

Given the Canada Post strike, the federal government made the decision to extend the charitable donation deadline to Feb. 28, meaning donors are eligible to receive a receipt that can be included on their 2024 taxes.

Nair said she's hopeful it'll help the hospital reach its total, although its unclear how the recent news of parliament being prorogued will impact the decision.
