Anyone with an Idea Exchange membership can check out a digital copy of 2022 Giller Prize finalist and Canada Reads 2023 selection, Hotline by Dimitri Nasrallah, during the month of April.
One eRead is a bilingual book club hosted by the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC), which invites thousands of readers across the country to borrow digital copies of Hotline from their public libraries with no waitlist.
“Idea Exchange is thrilled to be participating in One eRead / Un livrel again this year,” said Laura Knudsen, manager of the Queen’s Square library.
“One eRead / Un livrel is a way for our members to immediately access a free eBook or audiobook and join in the online events for this bilingual, cross-Canada book club."
Longlisted for the 2022 Giller Prize, and a Canada Reads selection in 2023, Hotline is the story of Muna, a mother starting a new life in Montreal after escaping devastation in war-torn Lebanon with her 8-year-old son in the 1980s.
Even as she struggles to find acceptance, healing, and purpose in a new city where she doesn’t feel welcome, Muna finds herself providing solace and a sympathetic ear to fellow Montrealers via her job as a hotline operator for a weight-loss centre.
The book was praised for its universal human themes of belonging, identity, isolation, and connection, making it ideal story to read and discuss with thousands of fellow Canadians as part of this year’s One eRead / Un livrel program, says a press release.
The CBC will be partnering with One eRead / Un livrel for two live events with the author on April 23 and April 25.
The events will be recorded and available through YouTube and on the 1ereadlivrelcanada.ca website.
Those who live in Cambridge and don't already have an Idea Exchange membership can sign-up for an online membership HERE, and get access to the virtual library.
