A local film festival wants to see submissions from Cambridge directors and filmmakers to show off the local film scene.
The Deep Cut Film Festival is returning for its eighth year and submissions are open this weekend starting on Dec. 15. The festival showcases the best film trailers from local creators.
"Our audience always looks forward to an incredible selection of short films,” organizers noted in a press release. "But we only screen the coolest films and the Tri-Cities have the coolest filmmakers."
The popular festival will return to the Registry Theatre in downtown Kitchener next summer on July 19 and organizers are looking to include more local trailers in the lineup than ever before.
According to festival director, David Briggs, “We’re always looking to highlight and showcase local talent and bring amazing work from the region to the big screen.”
The local film scene in Cambridge has grown with award-winning directors and film studios like Kris Langford and AvAMaC productions producing and showing their short films at festivals all over the world
While Deep Cut screens international films with many selections coming from the United States, throughout Canada, Australia and Europe, Organizers add there is always room for local filmmakers.
“There’s so much talent in our area,” emphasized Tiffany Blom, a programmer with the festival. “It’s important to create a community where local filmmakers can network and share their works with others.”
The festival does not screen feature films, but Briggs adds he wants audiences to get a taste of what’s being made in their own backyards.
“Deep Cut is a one-day summertime epic,” Briggs said, “so we don’t have time to screen feature-length films. We suggest you submit those to Sundance, or TIFF. We’re all about the short thrills, and trailers definitely fit into that category.”
All trailers must be for local feature films and be under a minute and a half long. To submit a trailer or find out more information visit the festival's website.
