The City of Cambridge is asking residents to consider Canada Day as a time for reflection and remembrance as it presses pause on a number of planned events.

The Canada Day light projection photo display, originally scheduled to go ahead July 1, won't be happening until July 16, the day the Region of Waterloo is expected to enter Step 2 of the provincial reopening framework.

Once the region enters the next stage of reopening, the display of photographs collected from the community will run for a week, between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the city asks all who are celebrating Canada Day to consider learning more about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action.

The city would like to remind those who are celebrating to ensure they continue to follow public health guidelines.

Public firework displays are not permitted and public events have once again been cancelled across the region this year.

Indoor gatherings are not permitted with those outside your household.

Outdoor gatherings are permitted and limited to 10 people (including those not from your household) with physical distancing in place, and masks worn if physical distancing is not possible.

Residents are reminded that fireworks cannot be set off in municipal parks, sports fields, laneways, or on school board property.

Residents are encouraged to exercise caution with private backyard firework displays to avoid injury and increased strain on emergency resources.

The city and Region of Waterloo encourage residents to limit their backyard fireworks displays in order to respect physical distancing protocols.
