About the Bounce, a youth basketball and leadership development program, is back for a third year in November.

The Preston Heights Community Group has opened registration for its third About the Bounce program.

Designed for youth in Grades 5 to 12, the program uses the sport of basketball to help develop leadership skills.

On the court, youth learn various skills from experienced coaches to improve their game. Off the court, they have in-depth discussions about self care, leadership and the importance of community.

At the end of the program, all participants play in a tournament and attend a Toronto Raptors game at Scotianbank Arena.

“It’s a little bit different from anything else that has been going on around here in the sense that youth are provided with one hour of a skill-based basketball development. The second hour is then followed up with an in-class session, with a focus on leadership development and mentorship," Sandra Gammage, community engagement coordinator, told CambridgeToday of the program last year.

“They will cover a range of different topics such as leadership styles within sports, culture within the sports community, equity, diversity and inclusion, how can youth become better leaders, and how they can make change in their communities.”

The program runs in the evenings every Tuesday from Nov. 5 to April 22 at the Langs Centre.

Cost is $30 and registration can be done here or by emailing [email protected] by October 1.
