Reporting to the Manager, Stations & Metering, the Supervisor, Grid Intelligence will provide strategic leadership and direction to the ensure the safety and reliability of the electrical distribution system.
Responsibilities:
• Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies and practices in grid management and electrical distribution.
• Lead or support projects focused on integrating innovative solutions and smart grid technologies.
• Analyze operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement in grid performance.
• Communicate with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, customers, and internal teams, to promote understanding and support for innovative initiatives.
• Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the utility’s infrastructure and technology advancements.
• Provides leadership and technical direction to electrical system control operations staff with emphasis on Smart Grid, SCADA, and AMI systems.
• Lead role in integrated and optimizing PUC’s electrical distribution smart grid systems as well as providing technical support to Stations and Metering operations team focused on electricity delivery to customers.
• Monitor operations, maintenance, and administration activities to develop and maintain annual department budgets.
• Ensures compliance with all legislation and regulations such as Ontario Energy Board, IESO, and Ontario Regulation 22/04.
• Supervise and monitor the safe, and efficient performance of capital upgrades, SCADA systems, system control. Effectively assist with change management when upgrades are completed.
• Implement corporate policies and programs, as well as reviewing and maintaining department SOP’s.
• Assist in the planning, design and optimization for sustainability and reliability of the electric distribution system.
• Provide support and technical expertise to assist in troubleshooting and problem solving in high pressure situations. Supports planned and unplanned restoration of electrical supply to customers.
Qualifications:
• At minimum, a secondary diploma in Electrical Technology with five (5) years related experience working in a Protection & Control, Scada, and Substations field.
• A Professional Engineers license with a degree in Electrical Engineering (inclusive of EIT designation) will be considered an asset.
• Experience in a leadership or managerial role is an asset.
• Have gained a sound working knowledge of electrical distribution and associate communications and controls systems, ideally with five years experience in a utility environment with experience in SCADA, AMI, and electric system control operations.
• Familiarity with applicable legislation, codes, standards, and practices related to the supply and delivery of electricity is an asset.
• Is a self-motivated and confident leader with strong oral and written communication skills.
• Have demonstrated an ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, GIS, and other databases.
• Have experience with cost estimating, developing budgets, project management and asset management.
• Detail oriented with a commitment to safety.
• Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario Driver's License.
• Ability to respond after regular hours in emergency situations and be on-call on a scheduled basis.
