JOB SUMMARY

The People and Culture Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting and assisting the Director of Operations and Resources in managing key Human Resources (HR) functions, including recruitment, hiring, professional development, policy review, compliance, and employee engagement. This position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating training programs, organizing professional development initiatives, supporting various organizational committees, and ensuring the effective implementation of HR policies and procedures.

As a trusted resource for staff and leadership, the People and Culture Generalist actively contributes to fostering a positive, inclusive, and legally compliant work environment. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to drive employee growth, operational excellence, and alignment with SCCC’s mission, vision, and values.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

RECRUITMENT, HIRING, ONBOARDING AND OFFBOARDING
• Support the development and implementation of recruitment strategies to attract top talent aligned with SCCC’s mission, vision, and values.
• Draft compelling job descriptions and post openings on various platforms to reach qualified candidates.
• Screen applications, conduct initial phone interviews, and coordinate interview schedules with hiring committees.
• Facilitate the hiring process by conducting reference and background checks and preparing offer letters and employment contracts.
• Oversee onboarding by organizing orientation sessions, ensuring new hires receive key resources, and fostering a welcoming experience.
• Plan and deliver training and development programs, including occupational health and safety, to promote employee growth and ensure compliance.
• Maintain accurate recruitment and onboarding records, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
• Support in the offboarding processes, including conducting exit interviews, ensuring the return of company property, and supporting employees during their transition.
• Ensure that offboarding documentation is completed, including final pay, benefits, vacation payouts/recovery and relevant paperwork, in compliance with organizational policies.
• Ensure the completion and filing of the Record of Employment (ROE) with Service Canada.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING COORDINATION
• Assist in identifying organizational and individual training needs, working closely with managers to align development opportunities with strategic goals.
• Support the design and coordination of learning pathways that enhance employee skills, career growth, and job satisfaction.
• Assist in the coordination and facilitation of ongoing employee performance evaluations, supporting managers in conducting fair assessments, identifying development opportunities, and aligning training initiatives with employee goals.
• Organize and oversee internal workshops, external training sessions, and professional development programs to promote continuous learning.
• Manage logistics for employee training, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and accommodations for off-site conferences.
• Maintain accurate records of training participation and completion, evaluating program effectiveness and implementing improvements based on feedback.
• Develop and maintain a library of training materials and actively promote learning opportunities to encourage ongoing professional growth.
• Analyze workforce trends and provide recommendations to enhance employee satisfaction and retention.

POLICY REVIEW, COMPLIANCE, AND COMMITTEE SUPPORT
• Assist in reviewing and updating policies and procedures to ensure alignment with legal requirements, HR best practices, and organizational objectives.
• Stay informed on employment laws and industry standards, identifying areas for compliance updates and proactive policy improvements.
• Coordinate committee meetings by preparing agendas, documenting discussions, and ensuring timely follow-up on action items.
• Research employee benefit programs and health and safety practices and recommend changes or modifications to policies to ensure compliance and alignment with industry standards.
• Support the implementation of committee initiatives and policy changes by facilitating communication and tracking progress.
• Develop and deliver training sessions or workshops to educate employees on policy updates, compliance responsibilities, and key committee initiatives.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT, WELLNESS AND RETENTION
• Foster a positive workplace culture by supporting employee engagement initiatives.
• Analyze exit interview data to identify trends and opportunities for improving employee retention and satisfaction.
• Serve as the HR representative for committees such as Health and Safety and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), providing support and recommendations.
• Develop and implement initiatives that promote work-life balance, job satisfaction, and employee well-being.
• Collect, analyze, and report on HR data to establish benchmarks, track trends, and support evidence-based decision-making, with a focus on leading data collection and monitoring efforts for various organizational initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

• Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Certified Human Resources Professional designation, or a related discipline

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

• Demonstrates a solid understanding of HR best practices, policies, and procedures, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with labour laws and regulations.
• Has experience supporting the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, and new hire onboarding, ensuring a smooth integration into the organization.
• Familiar with coordinating professional development programs, tracking training outcomes, and assisting in the creation and delivery of learning opportunities for employees to enhance skills and performance.
• Possesses knowledge of organizational policies and the ability to assist in reviewing, updating, and ensuring compliance with internal and external standards, contributing to the organization's adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
• Experience providing administrative and logistical support to internal committees, such as Health and Safety, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, including organizing meetings, preparing agendas, and maintaining accurate documentation.
• Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality, particularly in handling sensitive employee information and HR-related matters, while adhering to ethical guidelines in all aspects of HR support.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 Workspace and Adobe Reader (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PDF) and other relevant software to manage employee data, track performance metrics, and support HR processes efficiently; ability to learn additional programs as needed.
• Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and tools.
• Deep awareness of and respect for cultural diversity, employing effective interpersonal and intercultural communication techniques.
• Excellent communication skills, emphasizing reflective listening and thoughtful responses.
• Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a collaborative team.
