JOB SUMMARY
As an Employment Counsellor, you will play a vital role in guiding clients toward sustainable employment by providing individualized coaching, job preparation support, and connections to community resources. Through comprehensive assessments, you will identify clients' strengths, barriers, and career aspirations, equipping them with the tools and confidence needed for long-term success. This role focuses on enhancing employment readiness by delivering tailored services, particularly for individuals facing challenges in securing meaningful work. You will provide accurate and up-to-date labour market information, facilitate access to training and career development opportunities, and ensure clients understand their rights and responsibilities within the workforce.
In addition to direct client service, the Employment Counsellor is responsible for case management, advocacy, and administrative duties that support program effectiveness. You will maintain detailed client records, track progress, and conduct regular follow-ups to ensure individuals remain on the path to achieving their employment goals. By collaborating with community resources, training institutions, and social service agencies, you will advocate on behalf of clients to secure necessary accommodations and resources. Additionally, this role requires strict adherence to data integrity and confidentiality standards, ensuring all client information is accurately documented. Through diligent case management, proactive support, and strategic advocacy, the Employment Counsellor plays a key role in empowering clients to achieve self-sufficiency and long-term career success.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CLIENT ASSESSMENT, INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION
• Comprehensive Assessment & Goal Setting: Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate clients' skills, interests, motivation levels, and employment readiness. Develop personalized employment plans that outline short- and long-term goals, identifying necessary training, education, and skill development to achieve career success.
• Employment Planning & Job Readiness: Provide job search strategies, resume development, interview coaching, and skills recognition, using motivational techniques to enhance job market readiness.
• Resource Navigation & Community Support: Connect clients with relevant community services, educational opportunities, and training programs to support their employment and long-term self-sufficiency.
• Ongoing Support & Progress Monitoring: Maintain clear communication and provide continued support by tracking progress, adjusting action plans as needed, and ensuring alignment with program outcomes.
CASE MANAGEMENT, SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY
• Client-Centred Case Management: Build strong, supportive relationships with clients through regular follow-ups, open communication, and tailored case management strategies that address employment barriers and track progress
• Advocacy & Crisis Support: Advocate on behalf of clients by addressing employment challenges, collaborating with service providers, and offering crisis intervention when needed to ensure stability and success.
• Holistic Support & Community Collaboration: Work with community agencies, employers, and training providers to facilitate referrals, secure accommodations, and provide access to employment, training, and social services.
• Employment Readiness & Support: Facilitate workshops focused on job readiness, skill development, and networking while fostering a positive learning environment and addressing client concerns professionally.
ADMINISTRATION AND DATA MANAGEMENT
• Accurate Client Documentation & Compliance: Maintain up-to-date client records, case notes, and service plans in physical and digital formats, ensuring compliance with data security policies.
• Data Management & Reporting: Enter and manage client information in the organization’s database, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to confidentiality standards.
• Progress Tracking & Follow-Ups: Conduct regular follow-ups with clients to monitor progress, update records, and provide additional support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in a related discipline
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
• Experience working with vulnerable clients and marginalized individuals with complex needs
• Possess knowledge and experience in Motivational Interviewing techniques to effectively engage clients
• Solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing reflective listening and thoughtful responses.
• In-depth understanding of job search practices, tools, and trends
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions.
• Knowledge of de-escalation tools and techniques
• Awareness of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities
• Awareness of and respect for cultural diversity, with effective interpersonal and intercultural communication techniques
• Ability to design and facilitate orientation workshops to clients
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 Workspace and Adobe Reader (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PDF, etc.); ability to learn other programs as needed
• Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and on a team
• Proven adaptability to dynamic situations with a calm and professional demeanour.
• Possess a strong commitment to privacy and confidentiality.
• Proven ability to work productively in a team environment, fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting team members when needed, promoting a cohesive and collaborative work culture

• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and clean driving record
