With a lengthy waitlist, Saint Luke’s Place is looking for community support to help more Cambridge seniors

The non-profit long-term care home is currently fundraising to rebuild 192 beds

For nearly five decades, a local long-term care home has been offering a welcoming and safe environment for Cambridge seniors to thrive.

Saint Luke’s Place offers assistance with daily living, personal care, meals and laundry, along with many other services.

As Saint Luke’s Place continues to grow and evolve, its commitment to providing exceptional care remains unwavering. With many seniors in need of its services, the home is working to enhance its ability to serve local seniors.

“We currently have two projects on the go,” said Amy Ross, director of fundraising and development. “We are in the process of getting approval to rebuild 192 of our beds. We also need a new bathtub, and that can cost up to $30,000 dollars.”

The charitable home relies heavily on donations from the community to continue making its vision of dignified senior living a reality.

“We have a long waiting list for new residents, so the development of these projects is important,” Ross said. “There are so many people waiting in hospitals or at home needing long-term care service.”

Over the years, the home has continuously broadened its services and become a hub for local seniors, which includes a Seniors Active Living Centre complete with a coffee shop, tuck shop, wellness centre and a billiards room.

Saint Luke’s Place has built its reputation on a foundation of compassion, respect and dignity. It takes pride in providing the elderly and their families with comfort and a high quality of life.

The heart of Saint Luke’s Place is its dedicated staff. The team is comprised of highly trained professionals, including registered nurses, personal support workers, dietitians, physiotherapists and physicians. These staff members build meaningful relationships with residents, providing care with kindness.

“We will also be hosting our Santa for Seniors program in October and November and we would love for the community to want to ‘adopt a senior’ for Christmas and provide a gift if they can,” Ross added. “I would like to emphasize the importance of long-term care. We take pride in our nursing staff and want to ensure that our residents keep their dignity and feel like they’re at home,” Mirielle Tessier, director of nursing at Saint Luke’s Place shared.

“We enjoy the small moments the most,” Tessier said when asked about the best part of working at Saint Luke’s Place. “Like doing something little to make a resident's day and put a smile on their face. Those little moments are important day to day.”
