On Oct. 22, at approximately 12:10 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a playground fire on Heritage Drive.
The fire was investigated by members of WRPS' General Investigations Unit and was determined to have been deliberately set.
The damage to the playground is estimated to be over $65,000.
As a result of the investigation, on Oct. 24, an 18-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with arson- damage to property.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on December 4, 2024.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate a suspicious fire in Kitchener.
On Oct. 22, at approximately 12:10 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a playground fire on Heritage Drive.
The fire was extinguished by the Kitchener Fire Department.
There were no reports of any physical injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by WRPS’ General Investigations Unit and the Kitchener Fire Department.
