Motorcyclist, 17, seriously injured in crash in Woolwich Township

Police say rider lost control, left roadway and struck a ditch at about 12:40 a.m.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a motorcycle crash in Woolwich Township early this morning in which police say a teenage driver suffered serious injuries.

Police say at around 12:40 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a collision on Sawmill Road near Township Road 30.

"Through the initial investigation, police determined that the driver lost control of their motorcycle, left the roadway, and struck a ditch," police said in a news release.

The motorcycle's rider, a 17-year-old male from Woolwich Township, was transported by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services to an out-of-region hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing by the traffic services unit. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is being asked to call police at 519-570-9777, ext. 8856.
