Driver of 'suspicious vehicle' tried to escape police twice

Suspect arrested after driving away at high speed and later fleeing on foot before being tracked by police dog

Waterloo Regional Police arrested a male after a report of a suspicious vehicle in Kitchener.

On Jan. 7 at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to the area of Deer Ridge Drive for reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Officers arrived and located the vehicle, which fled from police in a dangerous manner at a high rate of speed. Officers searched the area and located the vehicle at a nearby business on King Street East.

The driver of vehicle fled the area and Canine Team officers responded. A police service dog (PSD) located the suspect and officers arrested the male.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old London male was arrested and charged with:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Trespassing at night (eight counts)

There were no reports of any physical injuries.
