A 38-year-old Cambridge man faces a series of charges after it was discovered his former employer was defrauded of $108,000, police say.

The man was head of the company’s information and technology (IT) department before being terminated in 2022, a police news release explains. In late 2021, while the man was on an extended leave of absence, he allegedly refused to provide passwords needed by the company to access records and eventually an external IT company was brought in.

According to police, an investigation revealed that during 2018 and 2019 claims were filed for reimbursement of purchased computer systems and equipment which weren’t actually bought. The total loss to the company was $108,000.

On Friday, police charged the accused with four counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of fraud under $5,000 and mischief to data.
