We are saddened to announce the death of Gary Worton, in his 85th year, on September 13th, 2024. He passed unexpectedly, but peacefully at home.

After a brief period of working down the coal mines of South Yorkshire, he joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 16 and sailed the world. While in the Port of Goole, he met the love of his life Shirley (nee Raywood) in the pub her parents were the landlords of. They soon married in 1963 making Goole their home where they raised three sons.

In 1982, Gary and family embarked on their biggest journey yet emigrating to Canada, where they made Cambridge, Ontario their new home. He served as a Correctional Officer for almost 20 years until his retirement in 2004.

Beyond his professional life, Gary was an avid reader, played guitar, had many letters published in local newspapers. He participated in Martial Arts obtaining a 3rd degree Black belt in Judo. Gary was a devoted husband, father, and granddad who enjoyed a pint with his sons, a good game of Scrabble, watching his grandchildren participate in sports, acting performances, and proudly attended all graduations.
