Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Patricia. Loving father of Mary-Beth Zeggil (Paul), Carolyn Witmer, Christine Zeggil (Brian), Peter Witmer. Cherished Pop of Stephen (Kelsi Baker), Samual (Menahil), Maxwell and Great Grandson Rylan. Survived by his sisters Doris Duncan, Mildred Ferguson (Bill), Karen Farrow (Bob) and by many friends and relatives. Predeceased by his parents Elmina and Edward Witmer and in-laws Mary and Clifford Snyder and sister Betty Brodrecht and brothers-in-law Ron Brodrecht and Don Duncan. Doug was born and raised in Hespeler. After going to trade school in Toronto, he owned and operated a Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical Contracting business in the Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo area for over 60 years. He was an active member of the Mechanical Contractors and Home Builders Associations. Doug was also active in the Kinsman and Rotary Clubs of Cambridge. He was an avid golfer and curler in his younger years. He also played Junior B hockey for the Hespeler Shamrocks. A lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan and Kitchener Rangers supporter, he loved a good hockey game, but his favourite thing of all was to spend time with his beloved family enjoying a great meal, a glass of wine, playing cards and sharing stories and laughs.
Friends will be received at Corbett’s Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street N., Cambridge on Friday, December 13, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., with a service at 1 p.m. and a reception to follow at 1:45 pm at Corbett Funeral Home.
