APRIL 10, 1926 – JULY 9, 2021
Alexander Stevenson passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the age of 95.
Alex was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to Canada in the early 1960s. He enjoyed his life to the fullest. After a long career with Ontario Hydro as a carpenter and underwater construction diver, he enjoyed many years of travelling the world and spending winters in Florida with his wife Anne. Alex had always loved to ride his motorcycles and continued the occasional ride into his 80’s.
He was well known to have a love and connection with dogs. He had many walks in Victoria park that were longer than expected because of the impromptu meetings with neighbourhood dogs, all of whom needed a bit of attention and a treat! Alex was a long time member of the local Shriner’s and he took great delight in his opportunities to drive the ‘little red cars’ in the Canada Day parades. He cherished the many happy family occasions spent at the Port Elgin and Florida beaches with his grandchildren, whom he treasured. The family would like to thank the friends and neighbours who would drop by his home in his later years with their dogs and young children.
Those short visits gave Alex great pleasure. Thanks also to the PSWs from Age Pro for their compassionate care in the last few weeks. Alex will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Anne Stevenson, daughters Helen Kitchen (Grant) and Cathy Favron (Nick), sons Bill Taggart and Alan Taggart (Adrienne), grandsons Jamie, Stephen, Brad (Stacie), Josh, Charlie, and Ralph, granddaughter Amelia and two great-grandsons, Alexander and Benjamin. Alex was predeceased by his sister Euphie, brother Robert and his grandson Alan.
Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 17th with interment to follow at Trinity Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Cambridge & District Humane Society or the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation.
