It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carlos Jose Fontes, a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who left us too soon on Wednesday, December 25th, 2024, at the age of seventy-nine.

Carlos Fontes, known more affectionately as “Charlie” was the beloved father of Jeff Fontes (Cathy) and daughter Julie Bailey (Dan). Charlie was the proud grandfather of Ryan, Luke, Cristian and Kinsey. Charlie will also be lovingly remembered by Maria Ines Dias and family, and his siblings; Terry (Maria), Harold (Marsha), Eddie (Heather), Anna (Joe), and Mary (Joe). Uncle Charlie will be fondly remembered by all his nieces and nephews. Charlie is predeceased by his twin sister Salete Bairos (Angelo), mother Filomena and father, Jose Fontes and sister-in-law, Mary Fontes (Terry). Charlie will also be missed by extended family throughout Canada, the United States and Portugal.

Charlie was kind, thoughtful and truly grateful, always. He was lighthearted, had a great sense of humour, and had a knack for corny and timely jokes. Charlie had a vast interest in modern and classic cars. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on cars as a hobby. He also loved and appreciated a wide range of music, including classic rock, old country music and movies, including ‘a good Elvis movie’. Charlie worked for several years as a medical equipment service technician locally and throughout the GTA. He was skilled in many trades and owned/operated Cambridge Appliance Service years ago. Charlie was always generous with his time and tackled many wiring projects and electrical jobs for family and friends through the years.

Charlie loved and treasured each and every member of his large family, close friends, neighbours and family pets. He connected in different ways with each of us and always looked forward to all gatherings and celebrations. As a father, he gave and loved unconditionally. He was patient and offered guidance thoughtfully and respectfully. He was consistent and dependable. He emulated many important life skills and values about how to treat people, be resourceful and how to be a good citizen and part of a community. Charlie adored his grandsons - Ryan, Luke, Cristian and Kinsey and embraced every opportunity to spend time with them, whether it was to babysit, share a meal, a car ride or just watch TV together. We will miss Charlie’s beautiful smile and humour. He will forever be in our fondest memories.

To gather and celebrate Charlie's life, a public visitation will be held on. at T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Cambridge, on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. Following the visitation, a private service and interment will take place at Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge, Ontario.

In Charlie’s memory and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fairview Seniors Community of Cambridge, Ontario. Alternatively, a donation to a service dog organization or animal shelter is also appreciated.
