New GOJHL commissioner Craig Spada has officiatd 247 National Hockey League games, the Memorial Cup and the Calder Cup finals.

Days after announcing its 2024-25 regular seasons schedule, the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League has established stability in its front office.

Craig Spada has been named the new commissioner of the GOJHL, the league announced in a release on Thursday morning.

He takes over the position from Tim Simmons, who was serving in the role in an interim capacity.

A former referee, Spada officiated 247 NHL games, the Memorial Cup and Calder Cup Finals.

"As I step into this new role, I want to emphasize that player growth remains a top priority for the league," Spada said in a press release announcing his hiring.

"The GOJHL’s ability to be a leader in player development is what makes me most proud to be a part of this league. We have consistently moved players onto the OHL and helped them further their skills and careers.”

Spada was initially the director of player safety with the league and now shifts his focus to player and league development.

“I am pleased and proud of where the GOJHL has come over the past few years,” he said.

"Much more is ahead for the league’s players, and I thank the GOJHL family for this opportunity.”

The league also announced Simmons will become its executive director of hockey operations.
