PUNJABI SPORTS FAIR

The 14th Punjabi Sports Fair organized by Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Cambridge attracted the enthusiastic support of Waterloo area and surrounding towns on Aug. 3-4.
Open and under-10 to under-18 boys and girls soccer competitions were held along with under-10 to under-18 boys and girls races.
Under-10 to under-18 boys and girls long jump competition, basketball, bench press, men's and women's tug-of-war and senior tug-of-war events were conducted along with a gagar race for women, musical chair race, musical race for children, and more. The show match of Kabaddi was the decoration of the end of the fair.
There were eight teams in the soccer tournament, including Punjab Football Club, Tricity Football Club, Khadku Football Club, Bleeding Lines Club 1984, Brentford Football Club, Punjab Football Club, Eagle Football Club and Riverside Football Club. Eagle Football Club was the winner with Punjab Football Club second.
There were four teams in the volleyball competition, among them KVC Volleyball Club, Tiger Sports Club, SBS Crusher and SBS Cambridge. In the finals, the team of KVC Volleyball Club won and Tiger Sports Club came second.
The Cambridge Gurdwara Sahib team was the winner in the tug of war competition and the Udne Sup team was runner-up. Roop Atwal was the winner in the bench press competition and Jodha Ranu second.
Guests included Mayor of Cambridge Jan Liggett, MP Brian May, MP Valerie Bradford from Kitchener South-Hespeler, Waterloo Police Chief Mark Crowell and their colleagues.
