Cambridge defenceman Chandler Romeo has his next hockey home.

Romeo signed a standard player contract with the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears for the 2024-25 season, the team announced on Wednesday.

The Solar Bears are an affiliate of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning.

Romeo played in 189 Ontario Hockey League games prior to embarking on his professional career. Stops in Hamilton, Sarnia and Guelph saw him produce 12 goals and 31 assists for 43 points. He also recorded 218 penalty minutes.

Following the end of the 2023-24 season, the 6'6" rearguard signed an amateur tryout contract with the Solar Bears but didn't appear in a game.

During the 2021 National Hockey League Draft, the Ottawa Senators selected Romeo in the seventh round, 202nd overall.

Romeo took to X to share his excitement for the upcoming season with fans.

"I just wanted to jump on here and tell you guys how excited I am to be down there," Romeo said in the video.

"I came down at the end of last season and saw a little bit of a glimpse of how great the fans are and I'm super excited. I'll see you guys in October."

The Solar Bears open the regular season on Oct. 18 when they visit the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

Their home opener is scheduled for Oct. 26 against the Savannah Ghost Pirates.
