Cambridge native Owen Savory will get his first taste of professional hockey this weekend.
Savory, 24, has signed a professional tryout agreement with the Laval Rocket, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens.
Savory will join the Rocket in Cleveland where they will play the Cleveland Monsters Thursday and Saturday.
The Rocket are short on goaltenders after Cayden Primeau was recalled by the Canadiens earlier this week. They have signed two other goalies to tryouts this week, releasing one.
Savory is coming off an outstanding season with the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks, sporting a 20-7-2 record, a 1.93 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.
