Fifteen vendors highlight The W Feminist Night Market happening Oct. 28.
The community is being welcomed to 20 Dickson St. for a day full of local shopping and mingling with artists in support of YWCA Cambridge programming at The W.
The W hosts programs for cis and trans women and girls, gender-diverse and Two-Spirit people. Programs are participant-led and provided free of charge to ensure an inclusive environment.
Trick-or-treating with a Halloween hunt from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., face painting and a photo station will all be part of the festivities at the market. After 4 p.m., people can enjoy warm cider while they shop.
With intimate partner violence recently being declared an epidemic by the city and Region of Waterloo, the market is the third and latest event put on by the YWCA Cambridge in recent months following the Take Back the Night Rally and March on Sept. 21 and Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, which took place Oct. 14.
All three are designed to raise awareness and funds for victims of gender-based violence.
"What's important to know is gender-base violence touches every part of society, from families and women to youth," Kim Decker, of the YWCA Cambridge told CambridgeToday prior to the Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event.
"It's really important that we get the message out and it has to be more consistent. We all have a part to play."
Aside from a Trillium grant from the Ontario government, the majority of the organizations funding comes from self-led fundraising initiatives like the night market, local foundations and individual donors.
The market runs from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
