If you know a student in Grade 5, 6 or 7 who has a knack for leadership and a passion for policing --- there's a contest that may pique their interest.

Regional police have launched their annual 'Chief For a Day' contest and youth can submit a short essay by May 13 to be considered.

Police said the essay should describe what the student would do to make a difference in their community if they were named 'Junior Chief' for a day.

Essays can be submitted in-person at regional headquarters on Maple Grove Road in Cambridge, and on social media or through email.

The winner will be announced on May 18.
