The Waterloo Region District School Board is following the advice of public health and is now strongly recommending students and staff wear masks for the time being while indoors at school facilities. Masking, however, is not mandated and remains a choice of individuals.
“Due to the increased spread of COVID-19 in our community at the moment, public health is recommending we use all the tools at our disposal to maximize our layers of protection to reduce the risk of severe illness and help protect our health care system,” stated the news release from WRDSB on April 22.
The rising number of cases at local schools among students and staff prompted the WRDSB to recommend masks be worn at schools again.
The release also reminded students to continue with the COVID-19 screening tool and to stay home if feeling ill.
School principals currently are providing daily reports to their school communities to inform them of any COVID-19 cases at their school that day and which classrooms were affected by it.
No information or reports from a student's school principal indicates there were no COVID-19 cases reported at the school that day, stated the release.
The release also recommended parents get their children vaccinated to help stop the spread.
Places to get a first, second, third or fourth dose of the vaccine in the region can be found on the region's website.
