The Waterloo Region District School Board is hoping students decline the ride and make their way to school on foot next month.
In partnership with the Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region, the WRDSB is putting on its annual Winter Walk Day on Feb. 7.
By walking, biking and wheeling, students can help build community, take the time to create relationships and explore the neighbourhood.
Avoiding motor vehicle transportation methods also limits harmful emissions and helps establish a safe transportation network around local schools.
As part of the initiative, the WRDSB is encouraging healthier habits and increased social connections.
All WRDSB students, staff and families can take part. In addition to the walk, students can register for a chance to win one of five $20 Indigo gift cards.
Those who learn remotely and have to take the bus are able to participate by walking to and from the bus stop or taking time throughout the day for a stroll.
