Thanksgiving weekend in Waterloo region offers a chance to take in the fall colours, raise a pint at Oktoberfest, enjoy a parade, and get the family together for turkey dinner. 

It also means many services and retail stores will be closed or have modified hours to accommodate the holiday Monday, Oct. 14.

Check online before heading out.

Here's a list of city-run facilities that will have modified hours over the holiday weekend.

Cambridge City Hall offices, as well as cemetery and fire administration buildings will be closed Oct. 14.

Below is the list of Region of Waterloo service changes for Thanksgiving Monday. 

What’s open on October 14:  

  • Grand River Transit (GRT) will operate on a holiday service schedule. Holiday service is noted on all route schedules. GRT customer service is available at 519-585-7555 (24/7) or in-person at: 
    • 105 King St. E., Kitchener | 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
    • 35 Ainslie St. S., Cambridge | 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
      • Note that customer service will be closed for lunch from approximately 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. 
  • GRT Operations Centre at 250 Strasburg Rd., Kitchener, will be closed 
  • Regular curbside collection of garbage, blue box, green bin, yard waste and bulky items. Please have items out by 7 a.m. 

What’s closed on October 14: 

  • Cambridge and Waterloo waste sites closed for residential drop-off. 
  • All Regional administrative offices (99 Regina in Waterloo, 150 Frederick in Kitchener, 150 Main in Cambridge, airport administrative offices) 
  • Employment Services/Welcome Spaces (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 20 Weber) 
  • Home Child Care offices. For urgent issues, call 519-575-4400 and ask for Home Child Care.
