A barn fire at a property on Highway 8, south of Cambridge between Studimand Road and Safari Road, blazed for almost five hours and caused $200,000 in damages.

Hamilton Fire received a call for service at 4:51 p.m. on Wednesday, deputy chief Dan Milovanovic told FlamboroughToday.

"First crew to arrive reported heavy fire involving a large barn structure with several exposures around it, including a tractor trailer and a boat," he said.

The Burlington detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced Highway 8, from Studimand Road and Safari Road, was closed around 7:30p.m. Wednesday, while firefighters continued to put out the blaze.

"In a very short time the fire had consumed enough of the building where a defensive strategy was employed," Milovanovic said, adding that it took several hours to put out the fire.

The fire was officially extinguished around midnight.

Milovanovic said no one was inside the barn during the fire, and there were no civilian injuries, but one firefighter sustained a minor injury while on scene.

The OPP reopened the highway around 11 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
