The session will be at 138 Main St.

The push to hire more officers continues for the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

On Sept. 6 the service will be hosting a drop-in pop-up information session at Coffee Culture in Galt.

It’s the second such session in the last month in the city after one was held at the WRPS headquarters on Maple Grove Road on Aug. 2.

Those in attendance will learn about what a career in policing looks like, the application process, while being able to ask questions of current officers.

Back in July it was indicated that there could be a six to eight per cent increase in the 2024 police budget, in part due to the request to hire 18 sworn officers. It was noted that the projection is preliminary and not a finalized ask.

In a report presented to regional council on July 12, police detailed its plan to increase the police budget to keep up with inflation, new technology and a growing police force.

An eight per cent increase would result in an additional $17.1 million being added to the budget.

The 2023 police budget was approved for $214 million after much discussion and debate around the issues of staffing.

The session will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
