The Waterloo Regional Police Service is reminding students and the community as a whole to be safe ahead of returning to the classroom next week.
Motorists should be on the lookout for children waiting for the bus or walking to school and obey all crossing and bus signals.
Parents are asked to discuss safety planning with their children to ensure a safe commute to and from school.
The service's annual #WalkChalk awareness program is returning, encouraging residents to write messages along school routes to remind students that safety is a top priority.
Project Safe Semester is also commencing to promote the well-being of university and college students.
The service is reminding them to lock doors, secure property and not let anyone into a residence they don't know. Students should walk together when possible and consume alcohol or drugs responsibly and always plan for a ride home.
The WRPS traffic services unit will be conducting enforcement to target high-risk driving behaviours that impact the safety of children, cyclists and pedestrians throughout the region.
