The Cambridge Food Bank will be hosting another "stuff-a-van" food drive this weekend to help feed children around the city.

On Aug.17 the food bank will be at the Foodland in Ayr, Zehrs Cambridge Centre, Zehrs Hespeler and Zehrs South Cambridge to raise money and collect donations.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., they will be out collecting much-needed breakfast items to send children to school with a full stomach and ready to take on the day.

In a social media post, the food banks state that at least 35 per cent of those accessing their services are children.

Some of the most needed items are pancake mix, canned fruit, oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly.

The food bank also has drop boxes at most major grocery stores, city hall and the food bank itself.

Amy Slack the director of operations for the food bank previously told CambridgeToday that food bank use is up three times from pre-pandemic use, but they have been able to respond with increased volunteerism, donations and support from the community.

Food initiatives like stuff-a-van are ways they can address the rise in users, especially in young children and families.

"When we come together as a community like this and we recognize the greater impact we can all have by just giving a little bit more it really alleviates the stress that we see some new families experience when coming to the food bank for the first time," said Slack.
