United Way Waterloo Region Communities (WRC) is proud to announce the allocation of $500,000 in community investment funds that will be made to 42 local non-profit organizations for programs and initiatives in Waterloo Region.
Funding for this quarter (January - March 2025), was raised through workplace campaigns, individual donations, and events. An additional, $39,472 was allocated from The Tomorrow Fund, an endowment fund dedicated to addressing emerging and long-term community needs through innovative programs, capacity-building projects, and sustainable solutions in Cambridge and North Dumfries. Thanks to the generosity of donors who have established lasting legacies through United Way, this fund will support impactful work by organizations such as Community Support Connections, Langs, Rhythm and Blues Cambridge, and the AIDS Committee of Kitchener, Waterloo and Area.
"At United Way, we are faced with the challenge of allocating limited resources to the many critical partners who are working tirelessly to support our community,” says Joan Fisk, CEO of United Way WRC. “This quarter alone, we received 85 applications, totaling nearly $2.5 million in funding requests," adds Fisk.
While meeting immediate needs is critical, it’s equally important to invest in "upstream" services that create long-term, transformative change. Programs focused on building social skills, improving literacy and numeracy, and empowering individuals to create community-driven solutions are pivotal in fostering a healthier, safer region.
United Way WRC is committed to ensuring that every dollar donated is used and allocated effectively to sustain critical programs and support local organizations that make a real impact. Together, with the backing of our generous community, we are building a stronger, more compassionate Waterloo Region where everyone can thrive.
