Things to do in Cambridge with the family during winter break

There are many programs and activities all over Cambridge to get your little ones out of the house and keep them entertained this winter break

With a week still left before students head back to school, there are many things for families to do in the city to get out of the house and have fun. 

While there might not be any snow on the ground and temperatures are above seasonal average, there are still many activities indoors that parents and children can do together to help pass the time. 

Here is a list of some things to do until school starts up again on Jan. 8.

Cambridge Early On Centre:

Cambridge Early On Centre at 73 Water St. N has all kinds of family fun programs from music learning to just drop-in play. Programming runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free of charge. For more information please visit their website

Idea Exchange Winter Carnival:

Everyday during winter break, all locations of the Idea Exchange will be hosting a Winter Carnival where children can make crafts, play games and indulge in other winter themed activities. Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory:

The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory located at 2500 Kossuth Road is hosting their "Holiday Activities 4 Kids" event Hues of Blue during the break. This event will dive into five featured animals and how they show off their different hues of blue in nature. Complete with scavenger hunts and in-person meetings with the animals, children will be able to learn more about these creatures and the benefits of their cool blue colours. Kids Fun Hut:

Kids Fun Hut located at 525 Hespeler Rd. is an indoor play gym complete with ball pits, climbing structures and giant foam pits. There is also a dedicated play area for little ones aged 0-3. Tickets must be purchased to use the facility. 

City of Cambridge Winter Programming:

All throughout the winter season, the City of Cambridge offers programming such as aquatics, ice skating at their various rinks and other activities at local community centres. Winter Break Camp at Greenway Chaplin Community Centre:

Greenway-Chaplin Community Centre is offering a Winter Camp Jan 2 to 5, 2024. It will be held at Christ the King Catholic Elementary School. Camp runs 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. At the day camp, children will be able to learn STEM concepts, meet new friends and play other activities and games. To register, please visit their website

Silverheights Neighbourhood Association Themed Days

The local organization is hosting a Camping Day on Jan. 2, an Olympic Day Jan. 3 and a STEM Day Jan. 4. The half day programs run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and are $5. Visit silverheightsneighbourhood.com to register.
