A teacher at a Cambridge school who allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a student starting in 2014 that included sex after the student graduated is set to appear before the discipline committee of the Ontario College of Teachers.
The investigation committee at the college referred the case to the discipline committee on Oct. 31, nearly 10 years after the college says the female teacher began abusing the female student psychologically or emotionally and committed acts that would reasonably be regarded by members of the college as "disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional."
The notice of hearing does not name the Cambridge school or the age of the student, but identifies the teacher who was employed by the Waterloo Region District School Board at the time of the alleged incidents.
It does not say if or where the accused teacher is still employed.
The student graduated from the school in June of 2014 but starting in February of that year, the college alleges the teacher began inappropriate interactions with the student.
Those interactions included having private conversations over lunch, repeatedly complimenting the student and telling the student about her pierced nipples.
The teacher also gave the student her personal phone number, drove the student home in her personal vehicle on more than one occasion and told the student she could call her if she ever needed a ride to or from school, the college alleges.
After the student graduated, between July and September 2014, the teacher is alleged to have continued an inappropriate personal relationship with the student.
The college alleges the teacher texted and spoke to the student about her sexual orientation, sexual preferences and sexual history, including sexual practices with her husband and other women.
The teacher is also alleged to have sent photographs of her breasts and other naked body parts to the student, sent photographs of women doing yoga that included sexualized comments, and asked the student to send photos of her breasts.
The college says the teacher encouraged the student to masturbate and discussed masturbation techniques with her, and spoke openly about her desire to engage in sexual activity with the student and/or her husband.
Throughout the relationship, it's alleged the teacher told the student to keep their conversations secret and would often express fear the student would tell others.
In August, the teacher took the student to breakfast at a Cambridge restaurant "to discuss whether they should have sex."
On or about Aug. 29, 2014, the College says the teacher invited the student to her home, offered her alcohol, then they had sex.
After the encounter the teacher allegedly told the student not to tell anyone.
The inappropriate relationship continued for four years through text messages in which the teacher asked the student about her dating life and asked if they could "be together again."
The communications ended in October 2018.
The student is said to have "experienced adverse emotional and psychological effects as a result of the [teacher's] conduct from in or about 2014 to in or about 2015."
A hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
