Both public and Catholic school boards announced late Thursday that all schools will be closed Friday in anticipation of a major winter storm.
"Student, staff and family safety continues to be our priority and we continue to monitor weather conditions," says the Waterloo Region District School Board's website announcing that all school buses, taxis and special education routes will be cancelled and all schools will be closed Friday.
A major winter storm is expected to move through the region overnight and cause dangerous driving conditions Friday and through the weekend.
Extended Day Programs, Child Care Centres located in public schools, and the WRDSB Education Centre will also be closed.

Students may also work on previously-assigned work or spend time reviewing material previously covered.
All Waterloo County Secondary School Athletics Association (WCSSAA) sporting events are cancelled and will be rescheduled.
The Waterloo Catholic District School Board posted the same message, saying "based on the forecast – and with the safety of all in mind – the WCDSB came to the decision with the public board and Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region to cancel ALL student transportation and close all schools Friday."
All before and after school programs and child care centres co-located in schools will also be closed.
And all programs and services offered by St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres are cancelled and St. Louis sites will be closed.
Students will return to class Jan. 9.
