Immigration is helping to push the city's population to new highs according to the most recent numbers released by StatsCan.

From 2016 to 2021, the number of Cambridge residents who identify as immigrants grew by 18 per cent from 26,090 residents to 31,825.

The 31,825 foreign-born residents represents 23.2 per cent of the total population of the city.

The top three places people have immigrated from are India, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

The number of immigrants from India increased from 2,460 to 5,200 from 2016 to 2021, while those from Portugal and United Kingdom went down by 600 and 385 residents, respectively.

Foreign-born people make up 23 per cent of the national and 30 per cent of the provincial populations, meaning Cambridge is 0.2 per cent higher than the national average, but 6.8 per cent lower than the provincial average.
