A social media campaign is encouraging residents to take action against racism and discrimination in Waterloo Region.

The campaign is called #RacialEquityWR and was launched by Immigration Waterloo Region in collaboration with about 60 organizations in the region.

"We have come together and decided to create a stronger community focus on the impacts of racism in Waterloo Region, and [are] encouraging everyone that they have a role to play in addressing racism and taking action," said Tara Bedard Executive Director of the Waterloo Region Immigration Partnership.

The campaign has two components: awareness and taking action. Lawn signs and posters will be available for residents to pick up at local libraries to show their support for anti-racism and to stand up against hate in the region.

"Display them in front of your house or your business, in spaces that are publicly available people in your community," she said, adding that it will let your neighbours know that "there is no place for racism and hate in Waterloo Region."

The website also links to other resources, as Bedard believes "learning is an action."
