Environment Canada has ended a snow squall watch for Waterloo region and has issued a travel advisory for this afternoon and evening.

A burst of heavy snow is expected early this afternoon as lake effect snow squalls shift south through the region, the weather agency says.

Snow squall bands are expected to push back into the region this evening bringing additional snowfall accumulations and bursts of heavy snow.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Changes from clear skies to heavy snow can happen within just a few kilometres.

Visibility can be reduced suddenly and surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
