Golfers will be teeing it up next month in support of long-term care in Cambridge.

Saint Luke's Place is hosting its 3rd annual golf tournament on Sept. 23 at the Galt Country Club as it continues to fundraise for its expansion project.

Raffle prizes, a dinner and a meet and greet with local Oktoberfest Ambassador Allie is all part of the day.

Proceeds go towards upgrading the home's kitchen equipment and the redevelopment.

The expansion project will see a new 192-bed facility built at a cost of approximately $90 million.

"It will meet the latest and greatest new design standards for long-term care and make this the largest and most complex initiative undertaken by Saint Luke's Place in our history," David Bakker, CEO of Saint Luke's Place, said late last year.

"The new building will revitalize our current long-term care home to better meet the increasingly complex care needs of our residents and will benefit generations to come."

The home has acquired the land adjacent to its existing building through an agreement with Saint Luke's United Church.

According to the Ontario Long Term Care Association, more than 43,000 people are on the wait list for placement. That number is anticipated to grow to 48,000 by 2029.

A date for breaking ground on the project hasn't been set but the hope is to open the doors in 2028, Bakker said.
