Several residents turned to coffee shops like Planet Bean in downtown Guelph as makeshift office spaces, as the country deals with an ongoing Rogers network outage.

The service outage by Rogers is affecting millions of Canadians around the country, disrupting everything from cell phones and internet to payment options.

With service disruptions first being reported early Friday morning, and only affecting Rogers customers, it quickly put a hold on all Interac services nationwide.

“There is a nationwide Rogers outage that encompasses all their business and consumer network services.  This is impacting INTERAC Debit and INTERAC eTransfer.  INTERAC Debit is currently unavailable online and at checkout,” said Interac in a tweet.

Rogers has yet to release a statement on the cause of the outage, but said on social media they are working to resolve any issues.

Waterloo regional police issued a notice to the public that the outage may affect 9-1-1 calls being made from a Rogers phones.

They urge people to use a landline or a phone with a different provider to contact emergency services.

With internet and data services down, cafes and restaurants around the country whose Wi-Fi still worked had an influx of people trying to hop on the complimentary internet provided to customers.

Many took to social media to voice their frustrations and joke about the communications giant, with one of the biggest disruptions outages in recent memory.

While some are able to joke and laugh off this shortage, others use this as an opportunity to point out issues with Canada's lack of telecommunication diversity.

Even Bell users are being affected by the Rogers shortage, adding even more slowdowns and problems with service.
