Region of Waterloo Public Health has issued a disclaimer when it comes to the latest COVID-19 data.
On Tuesday, public health released five days worth of numbers for Waterloo Region following a pause for the long weekend.
In posts on social media, the health unit said data for April 17 and 18 are undercounted due to a provincial data transfer.
There's also some good and some bad news when it comes to local trends.
Public health said wastewater signals are suggesting that levels of COVID-19 infection may be plateauing.
However, officials said that because of increased gatherings over the long weekend --- we may see a temporary increase in the near future before levels start to decline.
Public health also noted that we'll likely continue to see a rise in hospitalizations and COVID-19 related deaths in the coming days as they are lagging indicators.
We are currently using a variety of indicators such as wastewater signals, vaccination levels, outbreaks, and hospitalizations to closely monitor the situation.
