Wayne Steffler is joining the Region of Waterloo as the municipality's commissioner of corporate services and chief financial officer next month.

Steffler will lead a team that is dedicated to providing critical services to Waterloo region residents on a daily basis through financial planning, budgeting, and capital and operational planning.

“We are excited to welcome Wayne to the team,” said acting chief administrative officer Mathieu Goetzke in a press release last week.

“Wayne is a lifelong resident of Waterloo Region and is committed to creating a thriving community that balances growth and financial pressures, while ensuring a sustainable future for residents.”

“I’m looking forward to joining the team at the Region of Waterloo,” said Wayne Steffler. “It’s a great opportunity to help our community grow responsibly and while making thoughtful decisions for a sustainable future.”

Steffler has over 25 years of experience leading financial, administrative and cross-functional teams.

He has served as CFO and vice president finance and administration at Sheridan College, where he transformed the division to be more current, efficient and service oriented.

Steffler also served as assistant vice president of administration at Wilfrid Laurier University where he was responsible for a diverse range of activities, including new budget methodologies, investment portfolio restructuring and e-procurement technologies.

Most recently, he has been supporting KidsAbility in the role of vice president finance as they developed the organization's new strategic plan.

Steffler will join the Region of Waterloo on Oct. 7.
