The Region of Waterloo is hoping to spruce up a redevelopment project at 581–595 Langs Dr. in Cambridge.
Teams of artists can now submit proposals to have their artwork displayed at the site on a 16 metre long by two metre wide space.
The selection committee will give priority to teams that include emerging and experienced artists. At least one member must identify as part of the Black, Indigenous, people of colour (BIPOC) community.
Artists should aim to highlight the history, identity and culture of the neighbourhood while focusing on the themes of home and belonging.
The redevelopment comes after the region took down 38 townhouses that outdated their 50-year life span. They'll be replaced with a five and seven-storey residential building that adds approximately 100 affordable housing units.
It's expected to be completed by 2027.
The budget for the art installation is $100,000 plus HST and covers artist fees, materials, production costs, storage, art transportation, insurance, travel and other incidental expenses.
Deadline for submissions is March 31.
