There are about 319 patients in Ontario ICUs with COVID-related critical illness, according to the latest report by the province.

The latest COVID updates published by the province also report 19 new deaths, 1,425 new cases and approximately 1,106 COVID-positive patients in Ontario hospitals.

New case counts no longer reflect COVID-19 transmission in the province as testing is not open to everyone. Totals are therefore underestimated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,091,526 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,060,530 recoveries and 12,306 deaths.

The Feb. 23 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

Cases

  • 2,701 recoveries since yesterday's report
  • Among the new cases confirmed today are 215 unvaccinated people, 47 partially vaccinated people, and 1,009 fully vaccinated people. 154 cases were reported with vaccination status unknown.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate for cases is 11.7 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, nine cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 11 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.

Hospitalizations

  • 1,106 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19. Of those, 50 per cent were admitted because of COVID-19 and the other half were admitted for other reasons but test positive for COVID-19.
  • Included in the hospitalized cases are 251 unvaccinated people, 37 partially vaccinated people, and 572 fully vaccinated people.
  • There are approximately 319 patients in Ontario ICUs with COVID-related illnesses, and 268 patients in the ICU currently testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 199 COVID patients on ventilators because of COVID-related critical illness
  • Included in the ICU COVID patients are 85 unvaccinated, five partially vaccinated, and 90 fully vaccinated people.

Vaccination

  • About 85 per cent of the population over four years old in Ontario is fully vaccinated (about 11.9 million people)
  • More than 6.9 million people in Ontario have had three doses of a COVID vaccine.
  • 10 per cent of the eligible population (aged 5 and up) is unvaccinated
