After winning gold at the Ontario Lawn Bowls Association's provincial championships, a Preston lawn bowler is making history by becoming one of the first athletes from the city to take on national competition.

Dave DeFoe is a member of the Preston Lawn Bowling Club and after sweeping his way to a gold medal at the Ontario championships at Cosburn Park Lawn Bowling Club in East York, he guaranteed his spot at the Canadian championship in August.

The upcoming tournament will take place at Juan de Fuca Lawn Bowls Club in Victoria, B.C. from Aug. 18-26.

DeFoe won't be travelling to B.C. alone as he is also competing with a bowler from another club in men's pairs.

Just a few weeks before winning gold, DeFoe and Mark McFadyen from Heritage Green Lawn Bowling Club in Kitchener, took home the silver medal, earning them a spot in the nationals.

The Preston Lawn Bowling Club is excited to cheer on their own as he takes on the country for the gold medal.
