Shoppers were stunned as an unknown male entered Giant Tiger on King Street in Preston with a knife and demanded cash from the register Tuesday evening.

At least one person at the store suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident. The suspect fled the area.

Nikki Does was at the Preston store with her children when the robbery occurred at around 7:35 p.m.

"I was in the store with my kids at the till when it happened," wrote Does in a Facebook post. "The man had a knife. It was really terrifying and my kids were afraid to sleep tonight because the man might be in their dreams."

Customers were not allowed to enter the store as police secured the area and paramedics treated the victims.

Georgia Watters-Muller works at the Giant Tiger and said she stood between the man and the other staff from being injured.

"I was in the middle of it, I was the one sending everyone to safety and letting people out after," she said in a Facebook post.
