Newly elected board members were sworn in at Waterloo Region District School Board’s (WRDSB) inaugural meeting Monday night.

“This marks the beginning of another phase of us coming together to lead on behalf of students and staff and the communities that we serve,” said WRDSB director jeewan chanicka.

Representing Cambridge are Bill Cody and Carla Johnson who were sworn in as new trustees joining returning trustee, Cindy Watson.

Joanne Weston was voted in as chair, and Kathleen Woodcock was voted as vice chair.

“I look forward to serving with my trustee colleagues as we work together to advocate for public education and work together to support WRDSB students in achieving success,” Woodcock said.

“I think we are all going to be very productive.”

Newly elected chair, Joanne Weston thanked past chair, Scott Piatkowski, for his work at WRDSB.

Piatkowski announced that he would not be seeking a second year as board chair earlier this month.

The Waterloo-Wilmot trustee had served as chair since December of 2021 after serving as vice-chair.

“I want to thank past chair Piatkowski for being steady at the helm as we navigated through some challenging times this past year,” Weston said.

“I would like to thank him for his leadership as the previous board developed a new strategic plan that will help guide the work of this new board of trustees in the system.”

Weston looks forward to her new role on the board.

“I look forward to working with this new board, as together we implement our vision, mission, and strategic direction," Weston said.

"I want to recognize and thank director jeewan chanicka, the senior team, and every employee at WRDSB for their ongoing work to help our students be successful in learning, and in life.”
