New COVID-related death in region, hospitalizations down

A new COVID-related death was reported in the region on Monday. It raises the local death toll to 408.

According to the latest data, hospitalizations have dropped to 51, with 14 patients in intensive care with COVID.

The health department reported 262 new cases, pushing the overall total to 44,836. The resolved case rate is 96.8 per cent.

The active caseload is down to 1,009.

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 553 of those cases (95.2 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since March 20.

86 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.32 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 297,000 third doses. 56 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.6 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 40.3 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 2,028 new cases Monday.

  • 87 per cent of those 5 and over have been fully vaccinated
  • 1,455 COVID-positive patients in hospitals, down from 1,591 reported Monday. 219 people are in ICU because of COVID-related critical illness, which is up from 214 reported Friday.
